Motorola Inaugurates New Chinese R&D Complex in Beijing

On November 8, Motorola inaugurated its new Chinese R&D complex at Wangjing, Beijing. The new facility incorporates one 16-story office tower, three R&D buildings, and one lab building, and is believed capable of accommodating more than 3,000 Motorola employees, 2,000of which are expected to be R&D personnel, PR Newswire reported.

Motorola's Mobile Device China Design Center, Global Software Group China Center, and Home & Networks Mobility China GSM/UMTS R&D Team, as well as several major labs and R&D centers in other parts of China, will be relocated in this new complex, the same source reported.

Covering a surface area of 92,000 square meters, the new complex's construction began back in March 2005 in cooperation with Zhongguancun Electronic Zone Construction and the Chaoyang District Government of Beijing.

 

Aside from this new facility, Motorola has set up R&D centers and labs in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu, and Hangzhou. Previously, the company also opened a Hunan Innovation Center in Changsha, as reported in an Asia Express dated September 15, 2006.
